Biography

Margaret Simmonds

Margaret's life-long musical experience has been primarily based in choral singing within both secular and church choirs; she is also self-taught (to a mediocre degree!) in piano/organ keyboard. Over the last decade good modern music has become Margaret's abiding love and she is a follower and advocate of contemporary classical composers worldwide, although retains a special affinity with the English choral tradition. Creating a modern but highly singable soundworld is high on the agenda in her compositions, which, whilst catering in the most part for various choir formats both accompanied and a cappella, also include two solo songs for tenor/piano.

Margaret has very recently extended her writing to instrumental adaptations, setting classical keyboard music for various instrumental groups; she has also composed an innovative "reimagining", in two variations, for piano/flute/clarinet of a well-known Bach prelude.

The majority of Margaret's choral works available on this site are offered for free unlicensed download - however, it would be much appreciated if users could email the composer (details on the PDF scores) with information about any subsequent public performances of her music.
